We usually address "chan" on close friends and "-chi" on even more closer friends. We say "-kun" when someone is younger than us. "-san" is rather polite on everyone. "-sama" as a respect for those older than us, and "dono" for someone with a rank higher than us who we treat as a master, chief, or leader like "Yami-dono"... smile

Wakarimashita, Yuki-chi? smile

Gumai-chan is another japanese term for younger sister though it's not commonly used in animes and films,
my elder cousin calls me that... smile

On the other hand, Shinigami-kun is our gutei-chan... biggrin

Hai hai! Gutei-bozu works but in an informal way (but it's allowable)...

1. You are reluctant to be able to disobey a person.
2. Sadness, friendship, by all means are your selfish words.

P.S. I'm not really sure about my translations above...
I'm not that good at translating my own language into English (w/c is foreign to me).
Actually, some single Japanese words are equivalent to a number of meanings (i.e. wa, ieru, to, nandemo, etc.)...
To make sure, just ask whoever sent that to you, he/she might have a clearer meaning (didn't he put the translations for you to know?)...

Gomen ne, gumai-chan if my translations are kind of incorrect... sad

he doesn't even want to tell me if my translations of korean into english was correct, but onee-chan are you sure they can't be turned into some kind of flirty statements? because i thought that's what it was >_< at least the statements in korean were directed that way :P

No, I think they're not...

Those words seemed just like idiomatic expressions to me... Just like the Japanese haikus... smile

But since some single Japanese words usually have a number of meanings attached to them, I don't really know what the intention of the sender is... Why wouldn't he tell you anyway? If he's Japanese then that's kind of rude not to clarify his statements! dry

Oh, I see!

So he's American! That is why I couldn't sort of understand his Japanese statements.
Perhaps he's just referring Japanese words from online so the tendency was that he had accidentally chosen those words with the number of meanings instead of the specific common Jap word for a specific English word that is his actual purpose.
