if the player is in colo, hes put into a unit ground that decreases xp

if hes not, hes in a unit group to increase xp

What I meant was where the trigger locates the hero. Backpacks are sent there, no?

When a hero is out of range of a kill, he gets no EXP. You triggered EXP if I remember correctly, so it'd have to locate the hero, right?

If they aren't in range of the kill, no EXP is given. Thus, when the trigger locates the hero, they're located in the zeppelin, but counts wherever they were picked up. Which is where backpack is stuck. Because that's where the trigger thinks the hero is.

If the trigger for EXP has an area around the kill for who gets EXP, the hero doesn't count as part of that area. They count as wherever they were when the zeppelin picked them up instead of where they are really. Something in WC3 just doesn't update true location, and so the map thinks that the hero hasn't left that spot until the zeppelin drops them off, then it updates hero location.

The whole thing is based on if I'm understanding it right though. And it's possible I'm not, however it's what I'm thinking is happening.

Basically, whenever the hero is in a zeppelin, the map thinks the hero has never left the spot the zeppelin picked it up. And will continue to think that forever unless the hero leaves the zeppelin, and then it'll go "Oh, he's over there now."

An easy way to see this is to enter a zeppelin, go for a while, then having something near goblin laboratory, use Reveal on the backpack. It'll reveal wherever the hero was when the hero was picked up, because that's where the map thinks the hero is.

I don't understand why, and you said it counts the hero as a ground unit...and is perhaps why. It's not checking the air, so can't find the hero, and goes back to wherever the hero was last found.

I suppose if you want to dumb it down to the lowest way possible.

But you completely leave out the part where the zeppelin comes in to mess it up in the first place

Thus is my point. It doesn't follow you, a trigger moves it to you.

If the trigger can't see you've moved (or...that you exist?!? [ex:dead]) the backpack doesn't move.

Blink & waygate aren't what I'm talking about.

When dead or in a zeppelin, backpack doesn't move. Because the game doesn't know that's not where you are. (However, where SHOULD it move you when you're dead...?)
Anyway, it'll know where you are when you click hero portrait or hotkeys leading to hero when it's in a zeppelin...which is most confusing to me.

Try running, select only backpack, and hold click on the little portrait. (The one every unit has, not just heroes).

See how it stutters? That's the trigger relocating you again and again, granted it's slightly slow, but eh.

The EXP glitch I think is when the trigger can't find you, it'll think you're dead or haven't moved or something like that. Anyway, it just seems that you don't exist except in that spot...until you're no longer in the zeppelin and runnin' around (probably away from something) again

All this backpack talk still has nothing to do with increasing exp gain.

I was using it as an example of showing where the triggers think the hero is. If the trigger doesn't think the hero is close enough to the kill, it won't give EXP.

Yes, but it will still get its exp rate gain. That has nothing to do with where your hero or backpack is. Unless of course the location is the arena.
