Random Stat question
As an agility hero, would you rather have an item with
1. 60% atk speed [ 1 ] [33.33%]
2. 20% atk speed 20dmg and 6 armor [ 2 ] [66.67%]
3. they sound about even [ 0 ] [0.00%]

Been messing around with stat spreadsheets and I'd like your guy's input on this to see if number crunching translates into real life scenarios.

id use the 20% as i dont think the 60% would make that much of a difference.

I have to agree with DC on that part, the 20dmg will be more useful in any case, the only time the 60% might be better is at a really low level with somewhat slow attackspeed and not so high dmg.

You can put it this way: The more attackspeed you have, the less useful another high % of attackspeed is unless the "AS-cap" is through the roof (Only instant-attack without a projectile has the potential to reach the absurd attackspeeds, while melee tends to be able to reach a higher AS than ranged heroes)

Ok I can agree with the reason of those statements; however, i have to correct you Zerynax on your statement about diminishing returns of attack speed. the difference is always the same until you get the atk speed cap of 400% (which in cot is almost immediately, but not so in most games). A unit with a base attack speed of 1.7 will gain an extra .24 attacks per second for every 40 points of attack speed. Whether that is better than 20 points of damage depends largely on how much damage you are all ready doing.

As per your comment Zerynax. the only time where animation would matter is if its longer than the base attack speed of the unit.

Nono, you misunderstood me, what I was saying is not that animation has anything to say, but the simple fact that most ranged heroes in almost any case has less base attackspeed than other heroes (melee or instant), hence causing them to be unable to reach the same attackspeed "cap"

Auctually you can increase attack speed cap by giving a unit attack speed upgrades. It somehow makes attack speed cap larger. Pretty sure i tested it and it worked sometime ago.

Actually, IAS is diminishing, atleast from a practical PoV. If a unit has 1.7 BAT, 100 IAS would reduce it to 0.85. Now, 200 IAS would reduce it to ~0.566, NOT 0.425, which is required to achieve the aspect-ratio of AS/IAS. This means that when you reach 300 IAS, it will be far more profitable to go with items that increases damage, since 400 IAS only increases your DPS by 20%.

I meant it doesn't diminish in terms of the number of attacks per second gained per point of agility. Obviously a gain of one attack per second is worth more to someone with 2 attacks per second than to someone who all ready has 4 attacks per second.

All depends on the situation. In the case of CoT, if you're an RG, you don't need armor, and the 60% AS is better. If you're, say, PR, you don't need AS, you need the armor. If you're Ele, you'd probably want the 20% one as well.

But then again, I'm also ignoring the "agility character" part of it for that example.

In cot it doesn't really matter anyway, you'd have maxed out attack speed at 400 agility by the time you hit chaos mode. So the attack speed would be worthless. Also, slow heroes like the royal guard actually benefit less from extra attack speed (in terms of DPS) than faster heroes do.
