Hey guys!

Ok, probably noone on this forum knows me, but that can change. biggrin

I felt motivated to contribute something to this project, so I thought up a (I think) nice little (well, maybe not so little) hero - the Guardian of Vigor.

Name:
Guardian of Vigor

Model:
I'm not sure. Something that looks big, strong and vital. (Like a Wendigo, or a Tauren...)

Role:
Tank/Supporter

Stats:
Str (main attribute): 15, Agi: 6, Int: 3

Abilities:
Invigorate: (active)
Boosts a friendly unit's/hero's strength by infusing it with strong natural energy. Increases the target's attack damage, hp regeneration and armor for some time (1min?).

Aura of Savagery: (passive)
An aura that brings out the inner beast of the Guardian and his allies. Increases the hp regeneration and movement speed of affected units. Whenever a unit under the effect of aura of savagery is dealt damage by an enemy, there is a chance that the damaged unit will leash out and instantly hit the attacker back for some damage.

Determination: (passive)
Motivated by the fight for his friends and for his own survival and invigorated by the rush of adrenalin, the Guardian finds new sources of power inside him as he fights that help him to shrug off the hits he takes. Increases the Guardian's armor, and whenever the Guardian of Vigor is dealt damage, he has a chance to be healed for some hp, the amount depends on his strenght.

Vigorous Roar: (active)
Draws ancient energies from the earth to empower his allies with unbelievable forces. For some time (1-2min?), it increases the attack damage, armor, hp regeneration and mana regeneration of every allied unit/hero in range. Has a chance to heal all allies in range, the value is depending on the Guardian's strenght.

Essence of Vigor: (ulti, active)
The Guardian draws pure natural energy out of the earth, becoming a real avatar of vigor. Increases his strength and armor for a certain amount of time. While in this form, his chances to activate the random (triggered) effects of his other abilities are increased. (Base spell is Robo-Goblin)

3 of the spells need triggers, but they shouldn't be too hard to make.

Discuss please. happy

Invigorate

A single target spell?

Most of the spells give hp regen...maybe replace the hp regen with a chance to block half of the incoming dmg?

Quote (meOme)
strenght

BTW strength is how you spell it wink

When faced with two choices just simply flip a coin. Not because it settles the question for you, but because that one second it is in the air you suddenly know what you are hoping for.

1) Yes it's single target, based on Inner Fire. Maybe it could be exchanged with something more creative, I dunno. ^^

2) Reducing incoming damage is allready the Royal Guards's tactic, I wanted to make a tank who is specialized in regenerating lost hp (for himself mostly through Determination).
I took "Vigor" in the meaning of "life force"/"vitality". And vitality for me is hp/hp regeneration.

3) Thx, fixed the spelling.

sounds like other heros i have seen, i like the idea a lot but it could use some tweaking, it would be esier to flesh out the ideas if we could make him and test him lol

1 Iron Buckler: 60% to block 20 damage ; 0.6 x 20 = 12 average

2 Iron Bucklers: 1 - (1-0.6)(1-0.6) = 1 - (0.4)(0.4) = 1 - 0.16 = 0.84 = 84% to block 20 damage; 0.84 x 20 = 16.8 average

Sure he could be even more rounded/creative. I'm not that good at thinking up hero abilities. ^^

The base idea was to have a hero who's specialized in hp regeneration and making allies stronger.

At the same time, he's kinda a special kind of tank. Instead of damage reduction or high armor (ok, a bit), he uses regeneration to survive his enemies attacks.
Though I must admit, I was inspired by the Werewolf hero in Defiance Orpg, who also has an ability like my "Determination" ability. ^^

If you want to make him, I'm not going to stop you. wink

i would really like to get into how to make maps and units and stuff, i really have a passion for programming, i just haven't taken any time to learn how because i have no one to do it with =/ everything is a lot more fun/interesting when u have someone to bounce ideas off of and just chat with =P

1 Iron Buckler: 60% to block 20 damage ; 0.6 x 20 = 12 average

2 Iron Bucklers: 1 - (1-0.6)(1-0.6) = 1 - (0.4)(0.4) = 1 - 0.16 = 0.84 = 84% to block 20 damage; 0.84 x 20 = 16.8 average

I've played one to lvl 80, he's fun. ^^

But my Guardian isn't a WW-copy... The WW has no supporting spells, and my Guardian on the other hand has no damage dealing spells (except maybe Aura of Savagery (which's damage dealing aspect also was inspired by the werewolf, lol)).

Pretty good, except it's hard to balance stuff that eg. have a % to heal when atacked. Since monsters attack pretty fast in chaos world (eg. azazoth), you'd end up getting hit like 12 times in one second. Even if its a small chance, that adds up. I suppose I could add it though.

So you're actually considering to use him? Awesome! happy

I agree that the balancing will be a bit hard. If the chance is too small, it would be useless in the early game... The percentage should be constant (between 5 and 10%), and maybe should the healed value not be depend on strength but just on ability level... Well, I guess we won't be able to find the most balanced solution without testing it in the map.

Keep up the action! ^^

The Guardian draws pure natural energy out of the earth, becoming a real avatar of vigor. Increases his strength and armor for a certain amount of time. While in this form, his chances to activate the random (triggered) effects of his other abilities are increased. (Base spell is Robo-Goblin)

1. So it is somewhat like Inner Fire....

2. Giant Unholy Aura with a chance to be a Thorns Aura too. Doesn't sound that hard to make...

3. So a hardened skin/spiked carapace thing, with a chance for the thorny effect.

4. This is basically an AoE with mana regen of his first spell, isn't it? With a chance to be an Essence of Blight?

5. A Robo-Goblin/Avatar mix. Sorry, this one doesn't sound as useful....

That about sum it up?

None really sound all that useful to me, mana isn't ever really used in this. Not enough anyway. If it's ever useful, it's near the very beginning, but you wouldn't have enough ability points then, still leaving it somewhat useless.
